L'Opportun

In 1987, I was coming out on leave from an assignment in Saudi Arabia and decided to stop over in Paris for my first visit there. After settling into my hotel, I took a walk around the local area and came across L'Opportun. I decided to give it a try and had a truly excellent meal. After dinner, I moved to the bar for a Cognac. I had heard many stories about the French being unfriendly or even arrogant to visitors. My experience was the complete opposite. Everyone at the bar spoke at least a little English, and when they found out that I was just out of "dry" Saudi Arabia, I couldn't pay for another drink for the remainder of the evening. What a great experience! I am delighted to learn that L'Opportun is still going strong on Boulevard Edgar Quinet.
