the last reviewer must be permanently out to lunch! Astier is one of the best bistro experiences you can have in paris and a bargain as well. I have gone there many times over the last few years and have always been charmed and satisfied but our last dinner just before Christmas 2007 was even better than we expected. Next time I visit paris this is the first place I'm going

This was the worst place in Paris. Over priced and the food was horrendous.

I had the mushroom soup . . . tasted like old dirty sock water. The fish was so small, served with bones and tons of fat. I barely had 5 bites of fish. My husband ordered the steak and it was so tough he could barely finish it. It hd no flavor when he asked for a a sauce for the steak he was offered ketchup! Ouch!

The desert was also a nightmare apples in a broth? Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else!

This is the kind of bistro that visitors to Paris hope to find, but rarely do. Away from the tourist center, it's worth the search. Great value, helpful and friendly service, wonderful food, and as others have said, a plateau des fromages that has to be seen to be believed. Make sure that you arrive hungry, for you surely will not leave that way.

This is an absolute must for a taste of delicious bistro cooking in Paris.

The restaurant has changed hands in the last year, but they have managed to preserve a delightful menu which never fails to tantalise the taste buds.

I was recommended this restaurant on a eurostar journey from Paris to London and it has a never failed to meet my expectations.

Le plateau de fromage is an adventure in itself and at such a wonderful price you can't go wrong. The other good news is that the restaurant is now open on a saturday and sunday.

Completely in accord with the other reviewers. This is one of the best deals in Paris and one of the most memorable atmospheres. Astier doesn't take itself too seriously and is better for that. Pressured but charming waiting staff added to the fun, and the food is rustic, but very satisfying. You are guaranteed not to leave hingry, and will not forget your visit in a long time. The cheeseboard is legendary and rightly so. Booking in advance is imperative, especially if you tend to eat later in the evening.

A real gem. Excellent value and outstanding friendly service. With the tightly packed tables, it felt like a true French Bistro - would definitely recommend to anyone.

I would agree that the menu is somewhat difficult to understand, but the waitress was more than happy to talk us through the choices.

Wine was good value and at €33 the St Emillion La Garelle was a wonderful bottle
