Brasserie Julien

The restaurant decor is lovely and worth the visit just to look at the art nouveau glass in the main dining room. The meal and service however were quite ordinary and there was nothing very memorable. It wasn't postively bad - just mediocre.

I do my best to visit Paris every year even if it's only for a few days. I first dined at the Julien in 2001 when the waiters were very attentive, pleasant & helpful this coupled with the great menu and food meant that I and friends could happily spend the whole evening enjoying the atmosphere usually leaving after midnight. I was unable to visit Paris between May 2008 (when I dined at the Julien) and August 2009 when I last dined there. In those 15 months the place has changed dramatically for the worse. Massively under staffed resulting in very untrained poe faced youths plonking plates onto the table and then snatching them away as soon as the cutlery is laid down, wine plonked on the table and abandoned once the cork was pulled. The food was good but the choice was limited and dull we were a party of six and one of us had to wait for her main course to be served ten minutes after the rest of us. There was no atmosphere, we arrived at 8:00pm and were out by 10:00pm. What a disappointment and shame that there are so many other brasseries that are now much more appealing than the Julien.
