If you have a problem with small restaurants (a total of 12 tables and 24 tightly packed seats), where one is forced by proximity to engage your accidental dining partners, don't go to this restaurant. The fixed price menu is very limited with only 2 or 3 choices of every course. If that bothers you, don't go to this restaurant. If you expect a large, gleaming kitchen, where teams of chefs prepare your food, you will be disappointed with this restaurant. If however, those things don't disturb you, then go to Le Timbre. The chef serves only what he can freshly obtain and make that day and the result is exquisite. I have the sense that the chef is in reality an artist rather than a restaurateur. His medium is food, and the passion is in the execution of the creation, rather than in providing a satisfactory dining experience. I have the sense that he would do this whether or not he had any customers at all. But, that is probably too pretenious a reading. We spent 10 days in Paris and Le Timbre was the only restaurant at which we dined twice. Comprenez?

My favourite place to eat in Paris. Food is excellent - there were snails, tete de veau and boudin noir on the menu so I'm not sure why the reviewer below thinks there's no french food on offer! Service is discreet and friendly - they're very helpful with the wines and they don't rush you at all. There is also a lovely relaxed atmosphere, it's cosy, intimate and well worth a visit

I don't think there's much the Chef can do about not being French. We had a great meal there. My girlfriend said the scallops were the best she'd had (& that includes Le Manoir!) My duck was beautifully cooked. The local Parisians seem to have taken it to their hearts, which creates a nice "local" buzz about the place. Not ultra cheap but great value nonetheless. PS It was a bitterly cold night and the little heater struggled, so sit away from the door or wrap up!

Not so friendly. Tourists, don't be fooled. If you're looking for a typical French restaurant, please note the Chef is acutally English and doesn't serve typical French food. I went there with my wife and we were very disapointed: very small, and not much choice. There was only one set menu!!!

Incredible food, service, and ambiance. A small, low key restaurant with amazing flavor. They served me the most amazing lentils I've ever tasted in my entire life.

This was the first meal for my fiancee and I upon arriving in France and it alone made the trip worth it. The server was very American friendly which we've quickly learned is in short supply here in Paris.

Fantastic food, all very fresh cooked in front of the customers in a very samll intimate environment. Lovely choices available, cater for everyone. Very friendly staff and chef. Cosy and lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend. Be aware that it is very small though as it's name suggests - if you think this would be a problem for you then avoid. But we loved it!

We went here having seen the reviews on this site. We were not disappointed. The first thing that strikes you as you go in is the fact that it's quite small and you will end up sitting next to people you don't know (which is all part of the fun) Service is impeccable and the food is exquisite. Having visited michelin starred restauraunts in london it has to be said that this place is far too cheap at only 30 euro's a head. It's a set menu 'prix fixe' place but it's all very very good. I compilented the chef on the food and he gave us a free drink to which we reciprocated with a hefty well deserved tip.

I took my finace here on the evening we got engaged, about an hour after I proposed, and it was the perfect dinner on a perfect evening. The food is delicious. The wine list excellent. And the service superb. My favourite restaurant. If you're in Paris you simply must go.

Le Timbre is one of my favourite restaurants in Paris. The menu is always imaginative and Chris (the owner) is a great host. Real care is taken into preparing the dishes...the atmosphere in such a small venue is fun. I would strongly recommend Le Timbre to anyone.

The tiny postage stamp of a spot was an excitement for us. We, my bride Deneb and I, visited Paris last March first staying at a hotel four doors up from this spot. Later we moved to George V for four nights and experienced.... it all. Anyway, Le Timbre was our spot for three nights and each was better than the next. The wind, the food, the service... five stasrs ( can you do that?) Can't wait to visit again. If anyone knows how to contact them by email please let us know. We will be in London in October and would like his recomendations.
