La Petite Cour

Our hotel recommended this to us and we really enjoyed it. It was summer so we had a table in the courtyard which was delightful - worth booking ahead though as people were being turned away later in the evening. The food was good - French cooking with some modern twists and unusual ingredients (pork mignon stuffed with crab) but nothing too whacky. it was good value (a fixed price menu) and service was charming without being overly attentive.

I first went to this charming Parisian bistro fourteen years ago when I was living in Paris. I recall it being quite nice, and visited it again when I was working in the city in 1996. It has a lovely outdoor patio, below street level.
Recently, I was walking around the area with a friend of mine on a visit and said, hey, let's go there (telling her the story.) Anyway, it was a very quiet night, not even half full, and it was fall, so no patio outdoors. But it didn't matter. It was just exceptional.
We had a foie gras that was done like small lollipops encased in pastry - I've never had anything like it and it was extremely rich and just the right amount. I had a potato purée that was almost like caramel in consistency - an accompaniment to the meat portion but it was the purée I remember most. I'm trying to duplicate the insanely wonderful consistency of it.
It's neither outrageously cheap or jaw-droppingly expensive. It's a bit on the pricey side - but it's well worth it if you want a special meal in a special town.
