Brasserie Lipp
your comments review this restaurant
We went to Brasserie Lipp last week for a big 30th Birthday celebration lunch, and everything was great except for the food and the value for money.
Nothing further needs to be said about the lovely decor, which is how it keeps on appearing in guide books. We found the service to be charming and helpful. Indeed, our waiter was patient, funny and very friendly.
The food was not what I had hoped for though. An uninspiring and difficult to read menu showed us that the food was expensive and so we hoped that the food would be of excellent quality. I simply could not believe it when our cote du bouef arrived well done when we ordered it rare. It had cost us 55 euros!
We made up for it by finding a "menu" deal somewhere humbler the next day. We were still smarting about our poor food at a high price at Lipp the day before.

I wish I had read this page of comments before going myself, because I too had it on recommendation to go here. Utter disdain sums it up nicely. I hope more people get the word out because even with the history behind it, this place doesn't deserve to be in business anymore. My mother's chicken was beyond dry and inedible, the other items were barely warm and I have never been treated so rudely at any restaurant - anywhere. There are so many good restaurants in Paris - scratch this one off your list.

I have just returned from a weekend in Paris and had the opportunity to dine in two of Paris's famous Brasseries. The first visited was Bofinger in the Bastille district which was a throughly enjoyable experience. Which led me to visit another Brasserie Lipp. What an utter disapointment. The waiters were obnoxious and rude so much so we ate the main course and left, never to return, not even if they paid us to! Glad we had the first experience otherwise we would not have even contemplated visiting a second Brasserie.

Brasserie Lipp is one of those restaurants that comes with such Hype and following it is hard to know what to expect. Been there once and so unimpressed by the menu and the look of the food coming out we turned on our heals and left (c.2005). A more recent experience with a Chef friend in March this year was equally poor. Frozen Chips, badly cooked meet, rude service and eyewatering expense.
Why this place is still being recommended is very bizarre, could be, and should be outstanding have only heard of dissappointment. La Coupole any day or L'Ami Louis if you've saved a few sheckels!

Brasserie Lipp is all you would expect from a legendary restaurant. The service and the food was outstanding, and you can't beat eating at THE Brasserie Lipp.

We decided to go to Brasserie LIPP having seen it metioned on a TV show and it appearing in my guide book. We were not disappointed were we received good service from humerous waiters. The service was not a attentive as I have received in top London restaurants but thats not what I expected. The food was as good as you can expect anywhere...

We loved it. The food was excellent, the waiters were funny and friendly, and the people-watching was first-rate. The portions were quite large, the desserts tasty, and we didn't feel rushed. We would have preferred seating on the first floor, but the second floor was fine (you miss the hustle and bustle, but the atmosphere is a bit more calm, the staff more attentive). And the location? Outstanding. One of the best neighborhoods in Paris for shopping.

I speak impeccable French, educated at the Sorbonne in Paris itself. Brought a French friend to the Lipp. Was treated with disdain. Not rudeness, complete and utter disdain. I would never return there.

Really nice food, rude, ruder and very rude service. Its a damn shame! After many visits of great eating and nice wine the rudeness has got the better of us so we wont be returning. Good luck if you decide to go....
