Not your typical upscale restaurant, you can immediately tell the difference at L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon when you sit down: everyone sits on tall stools. Translated, the name means The Workshop of Joel Robuchon, and no name could fit this place better as everyone sits at a bar surrounding the kitchen. This seating does not allow big groups to interact, but it is definitely an intimate experience that gets brings you closer to the culinary process. The wait staff’s wardrobe and the black and red décor of the restaurant also break convention. The food is typical French fare, managed by head chef Frédéric Simonin. Dinner a la carte will run you 80 €, which is actually on the reasonable side considering the class and reputation this restaurant has.

overall a very polished and slick operation, the red and black stark design screams oriental but the food is undeniably french, tall stools built facing in to an assembly kitchen, most prep work is carried out below decks. the food was good if a little expensive with some notable hits and a a couple of misses, we had the 10 course tasting menu , raviloi of langoustine with foie gras was sublime, as was a veal sweetbread with nutmeg and braised lettuce, scallops with sea urchin lacked punch and the seabass was on the bland side, but overall most of it was very good, joel robuchon was there himself which to me was a real bonus, not often the top guys are in there themselves these days so that was a real joy to see. its not a restauraunt that will gain any more than 1 star, but that i assume is not the goal, it's a great concept which is executed with precision, service was good if not exceptional but as a whole it worked, was different and created a lot of talking points.
