L'Ardoise

We dined at this restaurant three nights ago. We arrived at 8pm when it was very busy, so were relieved we had booked a table. Service was brisk, but friendly and efficient. It was difficult to choose, as everything sounded so delicious, but we eventually enjoyed papillote of mussels and clams, langoustine ravioli with tarragon and ballon de cassis, among other things.
The restaurant is obviously popular with tourists, but the atmosphere was very sociable. I was impressed that several of the dishes on the menu had run out by 9.30pm - what a good sign that everything is fresh. Our only disappointment was that the following night was Monday and we would be unable to make a return visit!

We had a fantastic lunch here on 18th April 2007. 3 courses for 32 Euros per person was a bargain. The food is on a par with some of the best in the UK.
Although we were tourists surrounded by mainly business people, we felt very comfortable and welcome.
Highly recommended for anyone wanting a good meal in Paris.

I have been going to L'Ardoise since 2002 and have enjoyed it until recently. For years they had a charming maitre'd who warmly greeted guests and helped those baffled by the french menu. The last two years though I have notice a steady decline in the restaurant concerning its service and food. The young woman who is hostes becomes more harried and less gracious as the evening moves on and food can vary from its original wonderful to quite disappointing. As it has become more popular with tourists you are rushed in and out, with dishes being removed before you have finished chewing your last bite. It is a shame.
